Don't want to bring you down but why no lid on the tank?

i have a lid but theres a small space bout an inch wide next to filter which somehow he found but thats covered now. hes been in tank almost 4 years n never found it, ive got 2 more bout 5 in. long but he was almost 10 n also my oldest n favorite fish
