acrylic aquarium paint removal?

by christofrontosa

any tips on how to remove paint from the outside of an acrylic aquarium. i bought a 150 gallon tank from a dude on craigslist for $50. it needs some TLC. the sides are painted black on the outside and i want it gone. there is no water in the tank and probably won't be for sometime. is it safe to use mineral spirits on acrylic? or am i going to fog up the glass?

That is a tough one. Never had to try it.

I'd try a small area in the back. Maybe acetone or some fingernail polish remover w/acetone some doesn't have it in there anymore.

UPDATE! i found the answer. a product called GOOF OFF works very well and does not damage acrylic but it smells awful.
