Having spot algae in or on your tank is NORMAL.
As Jdak stated, you might also have a dead spot, so try adding a power head or move your filters
a bit and see if that helps.
If all you have is spot algae leaving your tank on 10 hours a day, I would not complain.
What are the parameters of your tank?
Are you using CO2? Is that a low light tank? How long has that tank been set up for?
It takes months to stabalize a planted tank.
And - Lets see some new pics.

Still haven't heard why these are all from 2007. Maybe the camera hasn't been setup yet? If not, just turn the date off. I use to use the date and now when i go to past picture to print them, i always have that annoying date. I use red eye reduction to get rid of it but it just turns it black.

That tanks looks fairly new with that clean white sand.
And, if he is complaining about spot algae, I guarantee it has not been set up very long.
I say this because in a planted tank, spot algae is the least of your problems.
First comes diatoms, then green spot algae, then the REAL algae starts growing.
I would LOVE to know the parameters of the tank and see a NEW PICTURE.

Really. So what are you using for CO2? 2 Liter bottles?
And how big is your tank? What is the watts per gallon in the tank?
The tank might be 17 months old, but the stuff in it is so not.
Cause if it was, you would be complaining about gsa on your swords as they grow very slow.
