Setting up a tank for live plants.

by paulyboy83

I recently inherited a 65 gallon tank.
I would like to set it up with live plants.
I was wondering if anyone could give some tips/info on this topic.
ie: substrate etc.

Thanks
PB

Well, what kind of planted tank are you looking to set up?
High light, low light?
CO2? No CO2? Flourish Excel?
Low maintenance? High maintenance?

Umm... not so much true bang.
All the plants you named are low light plants and do not need CO2, or any special lighting.
And, all those plants are slowing growing plants which means that there will be more nutrients in the water then the plants can eat up so the tank will grow some new plants.
ALL KINDS OF ALGAE.
You need to get fast growing plants with slow growing plants.
You need to decide if you want a high maintenance tank, or a low maintenance tank.
You want to grow plants that are rare and have a carpet? If you want something like that then you are going to need high light, ferts, NPK, and CO2. If you want a low maintenance tank, you keep your lighting under 2 to 3wpg. You don't need CO2. Your plants grow slower, but you can still have a beautiful tank regardless.
