carbon media

by FRMNUTN2SUMTN4672

What are situations in a reef and/or fish only where carbon media and media like chemipure (aside from general maintenance) should be removed. What I'm getting at is in regards to trace elements, meds, etc. Ive heard when putting in trace elements in a reef tank you should take the cap off the skimmer as well.

i would leave the carbon or chemipure . and leave the skimmer alone. i have introduced soap in my tank before. not good. if i would have taken the lid off i would have had soap ,and blacknasties from my skimmer in my tank. thats why you replenish, water changes and adding necessary elements. i used bionic 2 part calcium/alkilinity it has the proper trace elements. along with chemepure and carbon

once with my hands {i think it was soap} and once with a filter bag i had washed in the washer. i had a big skimmer thank god it took about 15 min and it was gone. dont ever do that.but you dont have to be a expert to figure that out..lol i almost shit myself. if i had a smaller skimmer i think things could have got real ugly real fast. also i threw my carbon and chemipure out as soon as the soap was gone. and replaced it with fresh cabon and chemipure. and another waterchange.that one cost me big...

it will but thats why you do waterchanges and add trace elements. and it wont remove all of them. unless you dont do waterchanges or add TE

wont you save money by just taking the chem media out(considering no problems exist and bio filtration is somewhat established)...i know its all based on the chemistry situation in the tank

bio filtration will not stop a chemical atack. it will not use all your trace elements. do you add trace elements to you tank?
