Buying 95 gal wave tank.

by newbie916

I'm buying a 95 gallon wave tank to replace my used setup. My T-5 ballast went out and instead of dropping $600 on lights for my ok tank, I decided to buy the 95 wave. However, I'm wondering about what kind of lights I should get.

I'm looking at the Corallife 2x150 MH with 2x96 watt PC's

or

Corallife 2x250 MH with 2x96 watt PC's

I'm leaning towards the 150 watt MH's because I don't want to drop another $600 on a chiller right now.

Do you think the 150's will be good enough to hold most corals?

Thanks

thats a pretty deep tank..........they should be fine for most corals....stonies might struggle a bit unless you have alot of rock in there to get them up higher in the tank

That's what I figured. I have about 150lbs of LR and I think I have enough to build pretty high for stonies. It sounds like the 150's will do fine, unless anyone thinks I should get the 250's. My wife really likes the tank, which is a plus. Anyone live near Sacramento? I'm probably just going to sell my 60" 100 gallon with T-5's and a sump for $200.

damn .................im on the other side of the country ....lol

but on the lights.............my opinion {because im a cheap bastard, lol} is to build the rock up and run the 150's a little extra rock is cheap compared to the power you'll burn through running 250's and probably a chiller down the road.....but im sure there will be some that say get the 250's

That's exactly what my wife said..lol The 250's are also $300 more than the 150's.Well, I made my decision.

Thx

interesting question blue........the only thought i have on it is that salt water and fresh water have a different specific gravity {thickness if you will} so it would probably be a lot harder to "foam" fresh water ..............but i don't see why it wouldn't other than that................probably hasn't been invented yet because water quality isn't near as critical in fresh water as oposed to salt

easy fresh people......im not saying it's easier to do fresh than salt .....hehehehe

haha bring it on freshies........... ive had multiple freshwater tanks..... including two ponds in the backyard totalling idk like 1500 gallons, and so far i dont have fish, i only have inverts, not even my actual light or skimmer and i have put WAY for maintainance into my salt tank than i ever had to put into my freshwater tanks. I ran them strictly off of what came in the kit box like u find at petsmart...... cleaned them like once every 2 months, fish stayed healthy, RARELY had fish die. IMO salt is alot harder....... i HAVE NOT had a planted tank so dont thrash me with those posts but for your standard freshwater tank vs standard saltwater tank, salt is harder.....

It will work, as in turn it on and run LOL but it wont do what it is designed to do. The salt water is what makes the micro bubbles bubble, which in turn is able to separate the shit from the good water in a foaming action.
