Outside tank cleaning
Hey, quick quesiton...how do you clean the outside of your fish tank since you can't use anything like windex since it will hurt your fish (at least that is what i've heard).

I use windex but am extremely careful. I spray a paper towel several feet away from the tank and far below the top of it, but never clean around the rim of the tank with windex...just glass and lower.

Just wondering I heard stay away from anything that has ammonia and well Windex has it....Now is it because it goes through the glass or people that get it actually in the water?

I do the same as Tm. I spray the cloth then wipe the glass. It does not seep thru the glass, it can get in when you spray the glass with it. Just be careful you don't get any of the spray in the water and you will be fine :-)

I use a homemade all natural glass cleaner that works well, it 2oz distilled vinegar 2c water and 1/2 tsp castile soap. You have to use it a few times to remove the residue from the windex but once the residue is gone it works great. There is no worry about harming your tank as it is all natural ingredients.

I used to carefully use windex too...nowadays I just wet a clean sponge, wring it out, wipe the exterior glass, then towel dry...wha-la, clear glass
