by acerkai640

so im about to start up a salt tank in the next few days and well when i went to my LFS to look at live rock they had some of these worms in one of the live rock tanks. are they ok to have or will they take over and start killing things. or what is the best way to get rid of them. they told me they are ok in a tank but they dont look like they are tank freindly. thanks

bristle worms are good if you have a sandbed,as long as you dont over feed the tank they will never get out of control, the are very good detritus eaters,

nope its fine, i have 2 bristle worms that are atleast 12 inches, they might be fire worms idk, and a few small ones in my sand,..out of control would be 100s of them..

haha ok i think i gotta while until i get to that point.... what do you think the normal time period is from when the average salt tank gets water in it to the point to where fish and corals are added

well as long as the fish and corals are not preditory, you could add now, soft corals, algae eating fish ect.fish that eat zoopalnkton i would not add for atleast a year..imo..adding to soon will wipe out the population very fast.i would stay away from stonys for a year also...just my 2 cents..
