green algae?

by acerkai640

so i have some green algae in my tank and i would like to know if it is good or bad, i have heard it is ok but i think its starting to get out of control. it started out small and then i left it thinking my plecos would eat, but its now the size of a quarter atleast and its starting to spread to the other half of the tank and on the gravel. i would really like to know what is the cause of this and if i should get rid of it or should i just keep it under control (just to a min). thanks for your help

I have the same problem, except in my tank it is all over everything. Is it okay to leave it??? I thought it was, but am wondering now. On some spots of algae it has little bubbles on it. Whatever is under the light the algae just completely covers. Look at this slab...

Green algae is good for the tank in moderation. I would just scrub off any decor that you think looks unsightly, and leave it wherever you want. It's a sign of a healthy tank.

ok so i understand that but will anything eat it to keep it under control or do i have to do that? so will it take over my tank? and i have 3 plecos and 3 otos and the algae keeps growinfg and i think they are "working" or the brown algae but i dunno.

idont mind it i thought it looked cool but i just didnt know if it was good or bad? any other info would be great.

yeah but certin types if you dont get all of it it will just contuine to come back. depending on the type of fish and algage and if you have plants or not you could try lowering PH or Co2 injection.

its better than brown algea that most are plagued with... i just started getting the green on my shells and a little on the lace rock which for me is great...i noticed my sand gets it under the surface which you can see through the front glass. (i find this unsightly and clean it out.) if you don't like it you'll just have to clean it up about once/week
