Ideas for NITRATE REDUCTIION

by puffedupseagull

Gathering ideas on nitrate reduction, to experiment in new tank for the most effective ways to do so. Will plan to simulate a general sized tank, something the new comer generally starts with. Will try ideas and methods previously used to find best results in reduction.
Examples like refugium, nitrate reductors etc.

Refugium with macroalgaes or/and deep sand bad are the best,
You can buy or DIY a coil denitrator which will fix nitrate issues temporarly. Later the water hose in the system can clog because the algae growth and it is very hard to clean it out. I wouldn't recommend.
Nitrate reductors probably pretty effective, I've never owned one.
Again, refugiums are the best and most natural way to cut back on nitrates.

check out my sump on my profile........my nitrates read at 0 constant. If i feed heavy or if a snail died it goes up a little.......but I have a deep sand bed magro algae and mangroves......Without use of a skimmer this all works. :)

I use a poly-reactor that I got online I holds about 1.5 gallons. I filled it with kent nitrate spong on one level, and bio filtering media on the other level. My levels are near zero.

How about a qualification?

Who has a zero or undetectable Nitrate level, what is you primary nutrient export and how old is your system?

If you have to do water changes to keep your nitrates in check, your nutrient export system leaves a lot to be desired.
