k never had a canister filter before and got one off craigs list with no manual, eheim professional, trying to get the thing to work and aparently im a dumbass, on the adapter where the two hoses go i have switched the levers from the strait symbol to the open circle symbol and vise versa, put both the hoses in water not knowing which one sucks and which one pushes it out, put the filters on the way the picture shows on the website, looked for manuals for the way online no luck, and filled the canister up with water completely.... in the end it pushed some of the crap in the hose out into the bucket of water i had but not much else, time for all you gurus to help me out, what am i doing wrong?

Okay, you might need to prime it before it will actually suck water through it. Not completely sure though...
