55 gallon. Fake vine decoration. Few logs for hiding. Fake plants, the tall bushy one so the cudas can ambush the feeders(which they do very well). Whisper powerfilter 60 w/ biofoam. I ,somewhat alternate between a long 38 watt Helio flourescent and the pictus and my own fave, 2 MarineGlo 15 watt flourescent lights (doesn't show in pics but gives a nice subdued blue light). Bubble curtain in back of the tank. Large African Driftwood (attempting to hide air line). All the photos are taken on my iphone so quality isn't the best. |

| Advice: |
Look at Michael's or Hobby Lobby for plastic plants for your aquariums, they are much cheaper. None of the plants in our tank are from a fish supply store. Learn from your mistakes. Enjoy! No such thing as too much filtration. |

| About Yourself: |
My son gave me a 20 gallon tank 2 years ago and that grew into a 55 gallon Lake Malawi Mbuna set-up, and a 30 gallon planted community set-up and 2 fry tanks. I really enjoy watching the interactions and parenting behaviors of my fish. |
| Advice: |
Read all you can about a type of fish you are thinking about. Do your research first!! Don't just buy on impulse, you may very well regret it. ALWAYS remember, those small fish you bring home will grow up someday, so take that into account. Use adult size when filling a tank, not the size they are right from the store. No, you cannot keep community fish with African cichlids! They may all get along now, but when the cichlids reach maturity they WILL kill off the community fish!

My 120 gallon Mixed African Tank... |
| About Yourself: |
Just started with Chiclids about a month ago. I'll be updating these images in another month or so after I get the fish population up. |
| Advice: |
Clean water... Happy fish! |

| Description: |
My tank is 5' x 18" x 26'. I'm running an Eheim 2260 canister filter with a Just added a
Hydor Koralia 4 (1200GPH), one of the best investments I've put into my tank. I use an Emeim in line surface skimmer with a secondary intake for pulling the water out at one end and exhaust at the other end of the tank (making sure all the water gets cycled). I'm lighting it with 2 - 4' Power Glow fluorescent bulbs (I had 4 in my 55 gal, but without plants 2 do just fine). I have two heaters (one at either end for more even heat and as a back-up, just in case).
I have 250 lbs + of Texas Lace Rock sitting on a crushed coral base.
The tank rests on a custom made 1/4' angle iron stand, I used old barn board for doors. |

African Cichlid Tank.
|
| Advice: |
Get a ph buffer for your tank, as the correct ph level will bring out the colours in the fish. Although its expensive to buy a lot of chemicals for the tank, its worth it as you will rarely lose a fish if you get the water right. |
| Fish Kept: |
Mostly lake malawi cichlids (electric yellows, electric blue, red zebra, maingano, afra cobue, blue dolphin, cobalt blue, red forrest jewel, red peacock, interruptus, venustus & lombardoi) and have 3 american cichlids (convicts) and 3 lake tanganyika (frontosa, julidochromis gombi & princess cichlid) |
| Plants Kept: |
In my experience, cichlids destroy real plants, so i only have a few fake plants at this stage. |

| Description: |

New tank - only 2 months old.
1500L/h cannister filter, Coral sand, Mixture of rocks - mostly sandstone to raise the ph level.
Looking to buy a better light so that I can have a blue and white tube.
