55 gallon tank for my two black moors, with a dozen white cloud mountain minnows. 72 watts of normal fluorescents - hopefully this will grow my basic plants in nicely! (Hornwort, Anubias, Amazon frogbit) For filtration I'm using a Cascade 500 and an Aqua Tech 30-60. A bubble wand provides additional aeration. This is a shot of the tank with no fish in it yet...hope you like it! |

I have one peice of Texas Holey rock witch weight in at 105lbs. I am running a mag350 with bio wheels going to be added a sec filter in the future. I have a mix of Africans all about 1.5-2" in size. The tank has been up an running for about a month. The background was handmade from a goodfriend of mine came out great. He also built the stand witch is 4'x4' so the tank is right at eye view I love it . |

Take a look at the reverse flow vacuum systems (Python No Spill Clean and Fill or alternative). It makes water changes SO MUCH EASIER!!!! |

Get the biggest tank you can afford. From my experience the bigger the tank the easier it is to maintain water conditions. Research the water conditions you need for the type of fish you want to keep. |

First and foremost I'm a dedicated believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Beyond that I'm a Construction Worker by day and a Web Designer by night. After a long day of hard labor there is nothing more relaxing than planting myself in front of my aquarium and shedding the stress of the day. |

My advice to any beginner is to start small and aim big. A larger size tank can be quite a commitment. If a beginner jumps right into a larger size tank they can easily find themselves overwhelmed by the time and effort it takes to maintain a good healty environment for their fish to thrive.
Don't sweat loosing fish, it happens to all of us no matter what the experience level.
Most importantly have fun. It's just a hobby, if it gets too serious it's time to get out. |

I have 3 different varieties of Peacock Cichlids - 1 Red Zebra Cichlid - 1 Electric Blue Cichlid - 1 Green Terror Cichlid - 1 Electric Yellow Cichlid - 1 Big Lipped Cichlid - one Albino Cichlid and 3 Cichlids whos species origin is yet to be identified.
I also have one Dinosaur Birch who my Cichlids seem to leave alone and two very small plecostomus but one of them I'm growing for another tank tht is still cycling. |

I plan to gradually replace all of my artificial plants with live ones but seen as how this tank is only a few months old I havent gotton to that point yet. |

Im Using an All Glass 55 Gallon aquarium with the demensions of 48" Length, 12 1/2" Depth and 18" High. I'm using a ProQuatics canister filter 2400 with a Fluval 304 canaster filter for backup and even though this combo is slightly overkill it keeps the tank very clean for a healthy Cichlid habitat.
For lighting I'm using a 48" 1219 mm Reef Sun 50/50 florescent lamp by Zoo Med Aquatics.
For superior airation and circulation I'm using twin power heads.
Heating is provided by a 200 W submersible heater. |

This is an old photo of our 90 gal freshwater tank, but even though it's old it gives you a good idea of how it is placed in our house. We converted a hallway closet into our "tank room", custom built a stand for the tank and cut a hole in the wall. The house is a loft style, so when you walk into the front door and look up to the second floor you see the tank in the hallway wall. |
