Valid question. Its because its easier and cheaper than any other sized tank. Really it is...there is no auto topoff on this gallon vase yet I can go seven days without having to topoff due to the lid design. Its the oldest pico reef in the world, longest running, older than most 100 gallon reefs :)rnrnits for the stability and cost above all. having to frag from small spaces isn't fun, but none of these corals were purchased they're all frags from previous bowls fish avatar
