Finished my DIY HOOD! hood and lighting for a 110 gallon.

by scottyramone

hello all,

I just bought a 110 gallon 60Lx18Wx24H. It doesn't have a hood with it. Any ideas on what i should do? i was thinking of a glass one. maybe two 30x18 pieces.

As for lighting, last year i bought a Hagen GLO T5 HO ballast type kit. its a duel, so i can use two 48 inch lights with it. i think this should be enough, but once again i don't really know how best to use it. I'm having a hard time finding just a "housing" the lights to fit into.

any suggestion, or links would be great.

Thsnks,
Scott

You could build one with wood cut to size at a hardware store and a fan from Radio Shack. I often find great stuff in aquarium store garbages too.

Sorry I'm not much help.

But would still like some more input.

Yea. That looks right. I would add a cooling fan as well. They'll keep the tank from heating too much and they're easy and quiet.

Very nice I really like the idea of the xmas lights for moon lights. Also, that poker table is sweet, I would like to get a nice poker table but it's hard to find people to play with me.

TY!

The poker table is for sale!! I made it last year but my wife and i have a baby now, and expecting another. so the poker games don't really work well over here. We tend to get LOUD and play till the wee hours of the morning. So i told my wife I'll sell it if she lets me get the 110 gallon. Maybe when i build my next one I'll think of the poker table / aquarium.

How do i add more pictures of my tank on here, and how do i get ppl to vote on my tank?

I see they still have not approved my pic though.

You're pretty good with building that hood. I like the way your tank is set up with a forest on one side and a rocky mountain on the other. At least that's what it looks like to me.

thanks peter,

i was kinda going for rocky reef one side planted/wood on the other. i think i may have to change t up though as most of the fish seem to like the rocky side much more. i'll give it some more time though.
