just performed a water change and tested my water....

amm .50
nitrite .25
nitrate 5.0

Seems its a bacterial bloom... im guessing it will disappear by itself as quickly as it came... thanks for the input guys

Is the algae kind of sticky and easy to rub off? It may be cyanobacteria. It won't respond to alga-fix. Having a little green algae is normal and OK in a tank. Cyanobacterie will either go away with regulation of the cycle and reduction of excess nutrients, or an antibiotic. If it's just a little green algae and not slimy c-bacteria getting some snails or algae eater fish would be my method. At least you don't have hair or brush algae. My brush algae is growing back damned it, and I'm going to have to probably quarantine the whole 100 gallon tank by removing all the fish and dumping in lots of chemicals. I don't want to lose all my nice plants and I see no other solution for me, but your problem shouldn't be too hard to manage.

for sure its green water algae... i have a very small bit on the acrylic, but mainly its the water column.... definitely green, and not cyano as i had this when i first started my tank (and when you first started helping me). I have nothing on the plants or gravel... oh, and i bought Algae Control by Tetra... has the same active ingredients as API and the rest.

I don't want to remove my carbon in the filter pads as i dont want to disturb my beneficials, but they are old and inactive hopefully anyway so will see if this does the trick.. if not, will remove the carbon and apply in three days. thanks peter

ok, so here are my parameters:

ph 7.4
amm 0
nitrites 3.0
nitrates 15.0

Conclusion, the Algae Control by Tetra works a miracle at removing green water completely, but a couple good water changes are due the next few days.
