You do plan on putting him in something larger soon right?

Oscars become BIG messy fish and require a lot of maintenance in terms of water changes, filtration etc. By the time he gets to about 3 or 4 inches you will be doing a water change a day most likely.

No kidding on water changes. My Oscar is 3 inches. 1 month ago he was about an inch and this guy is growing fast. I change 25 gallons of water per day in my 75 gallon tank. Sorry I can't help you with your Oscar and you probably already know this but that tank you have is to small to house him. You might want to up the temp to 82° and add salt.

PYTHON!! I have to get one of these things. They attach to your faucet and allow you to both drain and fill your tank without using buckets. I tire of moving 30 gallons of water back and forth in my 100 gallon. You have to add the conditioner to the tank before you refill.

Up until 2 days ago it was 5 buckets a day. My back was starting to hurt and it was turning to be a real chore. I ordered a 50 ft Python and it is really easy now. I should have got the Python to begin with, lol.......:)

i would have figured you needed to add conditioner to water out of the tank, but if everyone just adds it to the existing water i assume this is ok

I've got a 4 inch Pleco, 6 inch Reticulated Loach, and 5 inch Tiger Oscar in a 55 gallon, and do 50% water changes ONCE a week and the tank is spic and span; parameters are perfect.

Oscars do grow fast, about an inch a month for a year (dependent on parameters, tank, companions, etc). Mine's growing a little fast I reckon, got him in December at about an inch, and he is currently 5inches.

Not sure why you'd do 30% a day prskiller, seems a little overkill. Do you have more than just an Oscar in the 75?

I'm in need of a Python big time... buckets are a pain in the butt.

I forgot to mention I was cycling the tank which explains the daily change. I had to keep the nitrites down. It just finished its cycle this past Sunday. Took 29 days cycled by oscar, pleco and 5 swordtails, 1 mollie and 1 redtail shark. I lost 1 mama swordtail in the process but I think oscar was the culprit. I had to put all my fish in the big tank because I was doing the fishless cycle to my 29g tank which took 26 days. So it looks like my daily water change will come to a halt, thankfully, and I'll do it every other day or so.

PYSHON there great i have one for my 125 but at the pet store i asked them how they do it and he said they clean then put the water back in and u have 10 min to put waterconditioner in i didt it and they where fine , easeyer on ur back that is for sure......
