Do snails need cycled tanks?
I know fish need cycled tanks but do snails too? I want to get some snails and I'm not sure if a cycled tank is necessary or optional. It'll just be the snails in the tank, no fish or anything. I'd prefer to not have to wait but obviously will if need be.

Yes, they benefit from the good bacteria the same as fish do.
Snails can also be messy, especially larger ones like apple snails. So you'd definitely benefit from a filter, if you were thinking you wouldn't need a filter if you didn't need a cycled tank.

Yeah I think snails do need cycled tanks - even land snails benefit from good bacteria (that's caused by their poop) in the substrate of their terrarium. So I imagine it's not much different with aquatic snails.
And as Kate says, they're messy so you'll want to have a cycled tank because that will mean less water changes. Snails poop a lot. And I mean a lot. You'll need to make sure you use the gravel vac or the water quality could get bad fast!
