Lots of mixed opinions... good luck HeidiG
I'd say they mean 20% to 50% for a large water change. I'd do a water change if fish are (stressed) due to cycle.

Wouldn't it make more sense to do a water change BEFORE your fish start dying? The frequency and volume of water changes required will depend on your stats. Test daily until the cycle is complete. I'd say about 50% water changes every other day.

Just so everyone understands. I have always done water changes every other day since the tank was established. The tank started cycling last week and the ammonia dropped. The question was asked so I would know if I should continue until during the cycle. I believe once a week changes can occur after the cycle. If I changed the water only after a fish died, they would all be dead!

Finally! Ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrate 10. I will test every other day for the next couple of weeks.
So I do not kill more of my fish --> when should the every other day water changes turn into to weekly changes?
