is a strong current bad for my fishes? and you make a point with a filter crapping out. always gotta cover your @$$.

if there are no dead spots - (areas of water with slow-no current) then you probably have too much filtration - especially with long-finned fish. Decor/plants/rocks all create dead spots though generally. Other than that the sky is the limit. The fish just need a chance to rest once in awhile.
I have had an aquaclear 70 running on my 16 gallon for over 8 months.

I agree with tmercier, Z, and the others who I don't know yet.

Most fish like some current to excersize and have fun in, even my gars which are not known for living in high current types of habitat in the wild love my powerhead outflows.

It's just those really long finned fish that can get worn out trying to swim against it. More plants and decor is how I create slower current areas in my tanks.
