I was wondering what fish are good for community tanks.
I'm new to this hobby and i really would really appreciate your help.

Why don't you decide on a type of fish to be your favorite, or choose a few fish and tell us what you like. There's different kinds of community tank set up's. Post your thoughts and we'll see what we can do.

I really love the congo tetras! Of course I'm partial to the angels too! Oh glasscats are nice also! All community friendly. Have fun!

I really like angels as well, but my favorite are the cichlids.... I've researched them and all of the sites say that they are very aggressive but very beautiful.

I got my 40 gallon about 2 months ago. We decided right away that we would like a community tank. Cichlids are very nice, yet can be quite aggressive. My favorites so far are Blue/Red Gouramis. They look great and have a Cichlidlike appearance. Also, another great starter fish that is thriving in our tank is Red Eye Tetras.

That sounds great.... but i thought gouramis are aggressive toward each other or is that only in small tanks???

I used to have an Opa line gourami and a Dwarf gourami in my tank, but i think that schooling fish like longfin serpae tetras, and neon tetras are really nice. I also like lots of tetras as well as oto cats are good. Stick with the smaller fish I would say.

I have a 55gal. firemouth cichlid tank with a couple large gouramis. I kinda' got bored of having the same fish so had to find something that could get along with them. After a little research I decided on cory cats and they may be my favorite fish now. They like to hang out together and will get along with almost anything as they have protective scales and spines. I think one of them is convinced he's a firemouth though, he doesn't hang with the rest of the cory but follows the firemouths everywhere they go and they don't pay him any attention.
