should you spray out spunge mechanical filter?

Looks pretty cool. I would definitally put a sponge filter on the intake as there's going to be a lot of crud build up in there without one.

okay, so the GE silicon II for kitchens and baths is safe for aquarium use or no???? On the back it read not for aquarium use.

Where do you get that? I looked in walmart and their best selection was GE silicon II, one was for house the other for kitchen and bath. I told the guy that worked there, "can you use this on sinks that you drink from?" He said yea. I said, "then why can't you put it in an aquarium?" He didn't know what to say, haha.

I did however find the perfect DIY canister in there. It is almost exactly like the one on that site I posted earlier except that it is actually shaped like a canister and it holds 16.8 cups which is much larger than his.

ahh, I mean if the silicon 2 is safe for tap water shouldn't it be safe for aquariums??? you would think.

I believe Silicone I is safe, whereas Silicone II is unsafe for freshwater aquariums. I prefer to use Aquastick Epoxy (puchased from Dr Fosters & Smith). It all depends on your liking, what you are after.
So I'd say, as for silicone, go with silicone I not II
