Driftwood from a lake?

by Mike0372983

I was just recently up at my cottage and saw a really nice piece of driftwood, but I am not sure if I could take it from the lake and put it in my tank without killing my fish. I heard boiling works but I want someones advice that has doen this before.

um... let it dry in the sun... then boil it in some salty water a couple of times... then boil it in normal tap water a couple of times...

i don't know about the bleach thing... that sounds pretty danger...

If-it's-too-big-to-boil-scrubbing-with-dilute-bleach-solution-will-be-fine....just-rinse-like-crazy,-soak-in-fresh-water-and-let-dry......You-can-get-all-the-bleach-off-if-you-try......I-think-the-main-thing-is-to-kill-whatever-parisites,-algae,-or-whatever-is-in-the-place-you-found-it.

sweet and yes I havent toook it fomr the lake yet... kind of a weird story, its in the middle of the marshy areas, so I am a little scared to go in becuase im terrified of seaweed. But I will just rent a peddle boat, and bring a saw, cut the paret I want off. Then soak it in bleach, RINSE RINSE RINSE let dry in the sun and then get a piece of slate and screw it into that... sounds like it might take a while:P thanks for the help
