plant filters

by morbus6373

has anyone here run a plant filter?
not the type with terrestrial plants, but with proper water plants?
if yes--i'm wandering what a good fast growing low (no) maintenance plant is?
and hopefully good for fish to eat as i would feed the trimming to my fish.
oh-and something that can be happy under lights 24/7

Watersprite is the fastest growing plant I own. It can be planted or floated though it seems to grow faster floated. I just use it as a toxin sucker-upper in my 16gal, and its gotta be sucking something out of the water to grow that fast.
It receives just over 1wpg and can double in size in several days.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a plant filter, sorry.

Onion plants are also fast growers once established. I have a couple in my 24"T 30 gal, and they reach the top, and will continue to grow over the surface with little maintenance. There's also a dwarf version that wont' grow this tall but still grow fast. If you get one of these make sure you remove most of the long whtie roots before planting the bulb, otherwise they'll probably just rot. After that the new roots will grow in and acclimate to your substrate, and also don't fully bury the bulb. leave about 1/2" exposed.

Wysteria grows really fast and sends out runners.

yo guys
thanx
i will try them out.
i use the plant as you use them as sucker-uppers, except i have them in a chamber in the filter with light 24/7
it worked quite nicely the first time round, but i slacked on the pruning and it over-grew itself and died from the bottom up. thats why i wandered about other possible plant to use.
