Could larger water changes be harmful?

by xxluckxx

Is it okay on a regular basis to do a large water change? For instance, a 50% water change once a week. Or could it throw off the balance, like mess the PH up?

No, I don't believe so. I usually do large water changes on one of my tanks and it hasn't hurt anything.

If the pH of your water source is not the same pH as your tank it could be too much of a pH change for the fish. Why do you change that much water? I also change my water weekly. However I only change 20%. I would say IMO that 50% is way too much and you could possibly do more harm than good...

A PH imbalance is possible. Why don't you do a PH test before and after and see if the change is enough to be harmful?
