Lighting

by hondastunt

Hi I need some help finding better bulbs for plants. Right now I am using zoo med flora sun 18" 457mm 15 watts T8. I looked online and it was a pain trying to find bulbs.

Thanks and I wanted to try a different brand then zoo med. I am using them now and need a little more lighting going to the bottom. I will try looking on ebay.

I found ones on amazon I like. I get most all my fish stuff from them.

What size tank are you lighting? I just started using LED's and I jumped the gun a bit I think, but put an amazon sword in last week and am already seeing a lot of new growth. This plant seems to demand a medium amount of light.

I got this most recently:

The hidden 17" puts out around 460nm if I understand correctly. Light output for LED's is confusing to me--primarily because there's no effing standard for labeling these fixtures on the box...in fact all of Marineland's stuff is labeled differently. lol I figured out CFL's pretty easy (wpg). The largest benefit to this submersible light is that no light is reflected back from the water's surface, or a glass canopy.

I initially bought (and also still have in operation):

What I have is an 18" @ 300 lumens (pictured) but they only seem to offer a 4ft from their website now. This light alone was not supporting plant growth at all, but seems to work well as supplemental.
