Plants have semi clear white stuff covering their leaves.

by MonkeyChunks

Hi guys, I havent posted in a while. My aquarium is doing well dealing with various algae that turns the water itself green because now I am using a uv sterilizer in one of my tanks that has sensetive plants. However, at some point the uv sterilizer was off and I got a new type of algae.

I dont know if it even has green color in it. It looks like it is white and almost clear. If you rub the leaves that it grows on it can come off as a layer if there is enough of it. the leaves are pretty much impossible to clean from it.

Does anyone know how to kill this effectively? Maybe it is mold? but if it were mold wouldn't intense light kill it? I don't know.

I am not sure whether you want to see a picture or you sent a picture to someone. Either way, please have a look at these photos I uploaded to flickr. They clearly show the type of growth I am talking about.

Ewwwwww! It doesn't look good. How's the nitrate level?

I just did a test with a test kit for all parameters. ammonia and nitrite are both very low. Nitrate is very low as well. The only item that seemed high is Ph

My tank also has 130watts of light per 30gallons of water about 8 hours per day and yeast based co2 generator. The leaves in pictures used to be clean.

OK. I've heard that yeast driven co2 systems can leave a white residue on the plants and stuff. Maybe it's that.

Plants have semi clear white stuff covering their leaves.
