Help! My male Aulon. Flameback has a white growth..

by beachywoman

My Flameback has a white growth on his tail fin. I purchased him from a very reputable breeder about 3 weeks ago. He is about 5 inches long. The white spot was on it then but did not look out of the ordinary. Now it has grown. The only way I can explain it is that it looks like cottage cheese in a clump. It is about the size of a pencil eraser. What is this? The picture shows the pic of him before the growth became larger.

Sounds like some sort of fungal growth - have you isolated the fish so others don't get it too? Without having seen the spot, I would suggest trying some fungal medication for your fish...

Any chance of getting a pic of the spot?

Hi, sorry to hear your guy is sick. From your photo, I would worry because he is so thin. Is he fatter than that now? That is a very emaciated fish. :-(

Here are a couple links to help you maybe figure out what is on his tail and how to treat it. Good luck.

The white growths on top of his body are in a very small patch and look like very tiny eggs on the skin. They are all together, they are not spread out. The large clump is on his tail fin. His is still pretty skinny. I wonder if it is ich? I attached a pic of him. I can't get a very good close up pic. I haven't seperated him yet but I will tomorrow.

pretty skinny.....looks like female thats been holding for 2 weeks!
dropped all color too.

Isolate in a small tank / bucket with air raider.

Buy methlyne Blue and aqurium salt.

Dose as per recomendations.

Move fish to new hospital tank / bucket after 2 days dosed with same medications as before.

this will help eliminate ick if it is the cause by moving tanks.

you should see good results in a few 4 days.
