African Cichlids rubbing

by vwfan79

I have a tank full of various african cichlids, they seem to be rubbing on things all the time. Almost like they have any itch. This has been going on for over a month, there has been no loss in fish and no sign of ick. The tank has been active for over a year, this group of fish is about 6 months old. Is this normal or do I need to do something?

Hi vw..yes it is normal behaviour for cichlids to rub on the decorations and substrate and it is only a problem if they are doing it frequently. Do a large water change and it should settle down. If not, do another water change about 2 days later. If still not settled down then you need to look at the possibility of disease... Good luck.
