Hiya,
I have a jewel vision 180(40gal). The cuttent hood holds 2x 30" bulbs.
It came with 1x 25w day bulb and 1x 25w colour bulb.
This currently means I only have just over 1WPG....
I have plants, although they are not getting on greatly.
I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a 4-bulb jewel lighting unit/ what they reccommend I should get so I can get the best possible planted tank lighting.
Thanks for looking! :)

I doubt you'd be able to use the legs..or know what exactly you're looking for in terms of watts per gallon, but your tank is actually closer to 50gal (47.5)
Here's a nice 2x65w light, its rather spendy but they sell these lights all over the internet, so it'd be easy to price shop. That would give you 2.8 wpg. I don't know if it will fit your hood exactly right though..I've never seen jewel tanks but I understand they're very popular outside of America..

Tmercier83-
I've checked out that lighting unit- looks very nice! Although my full tank width is 36", and I found one that hold 1x 96w bulb that would be perfect. Just considering whether I want to spend so much money on it!
And im not so keen on these hoods that don't cover the whole aquarium as my cat loves to lie on top of mine as its nice and warm for her :)

I have browsed ebay and not really found anything that fits the top of my tank- is it better to spend more money and get something that is a perfect fit?
Thanks :D

ehhh cats and aquaruims...........
well i amsure that someone out there makes 36" fixtures, the problem with upgrading you loghting is that you wont get the "cover or perfect fit " that you have now because aftermarket lighting systems are desighned to sit a few inches above the tank, either inside a canapoy or over glass tops or just over the open water, which is what i do. thake a look at my profile picture and you will see what i am talking about. You could do something like what i have and then just get glass or acrylic tops that will cover your tank and sit fulsy with the rim but i do not know if they would support your cat.....

Hehe thanks for the reply, your lighting system is amazing, however I have been doing some more research and I think im going to buy the jewel "Hi-Lite" system, which holds 2x 35W bulbs, and use that ASWELL as the one I currently have, giving me a total of 120W. AKA 2.4WPG.
Sound good?
