problem with tank

by amyw

my tank has translucent billowing stuff that seems to be growing at the bottom of my tank. I've lost three fish - have no idea what this is? Any help?? Thanks

do your water tests and let us know what it says

does it look similar to hair..if so its hair algae and your phosphates are high..w/c's will help.
If your tank isn't planted and its growing on a piece of decor or something (not your substrate) you can do a bleach solution dip with the affected pieces of decor. That's made of 19 parts water and 1 part bleach. Then thoroughly rinse the pieces of decor in hot water for a couple minutes, and allow to dry before putting back in your tank..

If it grows fast and feels kind've like a slime when you remove it its probably hair algae.. I get some once and awhile in my 5gal and its more whitish-grey than green because of a light deficiency and it doesn't fill with very much cloraphyl as a result
