have been buying filters for the last year, and basicly throwing them at the wall, because they say they are silent on the box, and when I plug them they are loud still
hoping for a canister for CHISTMAS... just need peoples opinion on good and really quiet filters... and since someday I might want to start a saltwater, one that can go with saltwater too would be great!
thanks for the help, Mike
anyone know a really quiet filter, LIKE SILENT!

I use Fusion 500 from That Pet Place. It is unheard, I have 2 of these pumps. The only thing I hear is the trickling of the water filters flowing into the tank from Marineland Penguin Bio-Wheel 200 (I use 2 for the 55 gallon tank).
Between the pumps and the filters, I can hear the fish's flipping at the water surface at about 5 feet away.
hope this helps

I have a RENA XP1 I picked up off of Craigslist for 25 bucks, on a 55G with a BioWheel 150, the combination is dead quiet, and only set me back about 50 bucks total.
I know another person with XP3 and XP4 cannisters, and they are silent as well. I've seen the XP4 for as little as 60-70 bucks used.
Hope that helps!
Duh, super old thread...info still counts though I guess!
