I wish they didn't cost so damn much!
I had a pair that laid eggs every few weeks, took care of them for a while, and then ate them. It was a bad time in my life and I ended up killing those diskus, but next time I have them I want to get a breeding pair and sell the babies.
They are commonly kept with a school of neon tetras.
Does anyone know of a good diskus food besides live blood/black worms?

I really want discus too, but I only have a 30 gallon, so i could try to keep them in that but I would only have two and they might get stressed. Anyone think that I should take the risk of getting them...?

Unless you plan on getting a 55 or 60 gallon eventually I would wait. In a 30 gallon 3 would still be better than 2 as their social situation will trump their confinement situation.

RCGman. With a 150 gallon you could have 10-20 I would think, as long as you had adequate filtration. I would have plants, fake or real, (I say real) that are at least 15 inches high and have nice hiding areas. I would have a background like dark blue taped to the outside of the back so they feel safer too.
Providing more hiding places doesn't mean they will hide all the time. It mainly makes them feel more comfortable because they know they can hide if they want to.
I'd think 2 Rena canister Xp3 or Xp4 filters would be minimum for a 150 gallon, or something equivilent.

i had two discus in a 46 gallon and they were great. I payed like 40 each for them though. You just have to make sure that you have a low pH level. If you have that and you do your water changes your will do fine. Let us know you how they do.

will do! id there something i can get to raise the ph if it drops? whats the usual level for them? they finally came out of hiding tonight so im sure in a few days they will be out of "shellshock". im not looking for them to breed, in fact idk M from F. but ive got a 150 g tank with probably 20 small community fish and was wondering how many of these guys i could put in and if its better go go even or odd numbers. ive read they are pretty docile so aggression shouldnt be an issue. i know it will be a small challenge for these guys but ill tell you what they sure put color in the tanl!!!
