Cycling

by B_Ez

I'm cycling my tank with four zebra danios. I've got a 10 gallon tank. I've been doing regular 10 to 15 % water changes for about four weeks now and I've yet to have any nitrite show up.

What could I be doing wrong? My ammonia is usually between .5 ppm and .25ppm.

Suggestions?

I am fairly new to this, but aren't nitrites supposed to be at zero? nitrates should be higher

They are when the tank is cycled. But I have never had any nitrite readings in a month. So something's not right.

Maybe your tank cycled faster than you expected. I'm not an expert on cycling. I usually just throw everything together ASAP along with live bacteria and I've never had problems with the cycle. I usually over filter by 4-5 times what is suggested. I figure that you can't have too much biological filtration.

Hmmm, well I hope it is cycled... It's just odd that none of the nitrites or nitrates are showing up, but my ammonia is steady. Ugh, this cycling thing is a pain in the butt.

Maybe you're just trying to hard.
