New 125g Set Up

by LDSCHMIDT296713

I plan on setting up my 125g again, haven't done this in a while so tell me what you think of my planned set up.

Equip.-
1x 300 watt heater
2x 110 Aquaclear Power Filter
1x Penguin 660 Power Head
2x Florescent Lights

Fish-
15x Tiger Barbs
1x Red-Tailed Shark
8x Giant Danio
5x Coolie Loach
2x Paradise Fish
1x Flying Fox
6x Dwarf Loach

Plants-
7x Plastic Rotala
8x Plastic Hygrophila
3x Plastic Apongeton Crispus
6x Plastic Springeri Mat's

I dunno if the Fish combo is too much or not. I don't like dealing with live plants so I stick with plastic and silk. Any suggestions? Appreciate the help.

I would say for a 125 gallon you probably need more filtration, Im running 2 aquaclears on my 30 gallon, a 150 and 200. Also might need another 300 watt heater if it gets cold in the winter where you live. Make sure lights are new if they are older than 6-12 months.

The fish sound okay, except barbs might nip at the others. You could throw more fish in there than that I believe.

well i would recomend moar water movement... but adding moar filtration would take care of that... get yourself two cheap canister filters... or bigger powerheads with sponges...

i kind of don't understand why you would have one 300gph power head in the mix... is that for the airation of the tank...???¿

some koralia 4's on each side of the tank would help you out alot...

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I thought that 15 Tiger Barbs would be so busy picking on each other that it would leave them with no time to mess with anyone else. I've been looking at canister filters but they see mso expensive, i'll see if I can find a deal on one. The Power Head I found on sale for dirt cheap and snatched it knowing I would need some water flow in such a big tank. I agree with another heater, I am in upstate NY and it will be getting cold. You really think I could fit more fish in there comfortably in there? What fish would you suggest, or what numbers of mine would you change? Thanks again guys!

Hey jweb1369 I was looking at my filters and they half an output of 500 gph, I have two of them shouldn't that be plenty of filteration? The aquaclear 110 was formely called the aquaclear 500 so maybe you got the names mixed up? I don't know but thanks for the help.

Oh okay, sorry got confused, my aquaclears are the older model numbers. Well then those should be okay. If you want a nice heater check out the Rena smart heaters, they are probably the most expensive heater but they can hook up to your filter and disperse the heated water. I have one in my tank. As for the fish, you probably have a good amount.

I dont know for sure, but in an aquarium that big it would probably be fine.
