"What was this guy thinking? To own so many tanks is crazy. What kind of a person would want more than one small aquarium in their house?" --Nikolay, sarcastically commenting on a Craigslist ad selling a large number of aquariums |
| About Yourself: |
Computer geek, web developer, aspiring engineer, plus a roommate whom I've corrupted and turned into an obsessed fish person like myself. |
| Advice: |
Do your research, start with a tank of decent size so you have a margin of error on the chemistry. Get an oversized filter and use only mechanical and biological filter media (no carbon or ammonia removers). Use a plant substrate for the tank and plant heavily from the start. Use CO2 injection, whether homemade or compressed tank. make sure you have enough light, a single bulb is not enough. Research your fish choices to ensure they will get along, not outgrow your tank and don't require special water conditions. Establish and follow a consistent schedule of water changes and fertilizer dosing. Keep notes on what you do and how well it works. You will be rewarded. |

| About Yourself: |
Always loved the hobby. Got serious about it 4 years ago. I mainly keep discus, I have 9 at the moment. 2 are in my planted tank. The others are in a 55-gallon grow out tank and my first and oldest, witch I nicknamed killer is in a 10-gallon tank. He is one very aggressive discus.
I have been keeping plants for about 3 years and injecting co2 for 6 months. I will never go back to plastic plants again.
