My father kept fish when we were younger and its just been in the family since. My uncles are salt water and Right now im just freshwater. there was a period where we stopped fish keeping and I got back into it for my 18th birthday when i impulsively bought two fantail goldfish. Ive been fishkeeping again since. |

research research research!!! i cannot stress that enough. i went $300 in the hole in numerous tanks, supplies and dead fish. and thats because i didnt research enough. so research to save money, time and lot of tears. |

well, it an all-glass aquarium that is 10 gal, perfect for just a college dorm room. its currently a pirate theme, with a treasure chest, shipwreck I used to cover my airstone which gave it a cool look with the bubbles coming out of the ship. my current filter is a tetra whisper internal filter which is GREAT because its silent. i use only silk plants, and i keep only guppies, im currently working on a 45 gal freshwater natural world with my boyfriend so thats going to be fun. the background for this 10gal tank is my dresser mirro, its rather cool because you get double the amount of fish and plants. |

I got into the hobby when i saw my friend from school had tanks and really liked them. I have had countless tanks as a result. I have bred livebearers, zebra danios, and convicts without much effort. Was not equipped to raise them at the time however. I am considering a serious attempt at breeding some fish once i get my big tank set up. We will see how that goes. |

Be patient and frequent water changes are vital.
Get a reliable heater---its a critical component. Do not overfeed!! Do not overcrowd either! |

29 gallon all glass aquarium rectangular.30 " long, 19" high, 12" deep. Fluorescent lighting (avoid incandescents), 150 watt ebo-jager heater in one, 150 watt Top Fin in second 29 gallon, 150 watt Tetra Whipser heater in third 29 gallon. Whisper power filters on all but 10 gallon fry birthing tank (sponge filter there). Also 10 gallon in daughter's bedroom with fluorescent hood, 50 watt Top Fin heater in there. Top fin heaters are submersible kind, Whisper heaters are not. I prefer the Tetra Whisper heaters. Ebo-Jager is top of the line though---worth the added expense. I have a 125 gallon coming in a few weeks. More on that once its set up. |

I've owned 3 freshwater tanks and 1 saltwater tank. My first freshwater tank i got when i was little and i can't remember how many gallons it was. My second was a 9 gallon and i gave it to my sister when i got my third one witch is a 45 gallon. And my saltwater tank is a 20 gallon. |

Don't rush when your setting up your tank and be sure to ask if a fish that your about to buy will get along with the fish you already have. Some fish will fight others . |
