About Yourself: Well I started with goldfish as most of us do I suppose. From there each tank got a little bigger and more expensive. But I love just kicking back watching fish after work, theres nothing more relaxing..
Advice: Filtration is the key to happiness. Spend as much money as you can on the filter, so you can spend less time cleaning your tank.
Fish Kept: 3 parrot cichlids, 10 assorted african cichlids, 2 rosey barbs, 1 catfish for cleaning purposes
Plants Kept: All Fake plastic plants
Tank Size: 150
Description: 150 gal. freshwater tank. Rena XP4 canister filter cranking 450gph. Rena 400 air pump running two 18inch airstones on each side and a 12inch, 6 LED moonlight airstone combo in the middle. Plants are all fake. My wife found them at a craft store for a 1/4 of the price you pay at a fish store, and they look way more realistic. All the rock in the tank is real though. Most of it I aquired from the creek by my house. The lights are just standard aquarium lights. My next project is to build a canopy with LED lights built into it.

This is my 120 Gallon African Cichlid tank. It has been in place about 5 years. It was once of the first tanks we had... now it is one of six that we have... can you say addicted?
By the way, the rating hint made in the rocks at left center was completely unintentional...

Quote: LOVE LIFE AND NATURE
About Yourself: I have started in Romania as a youngster with a pair of Guppies in a jar. My dream was a large tank - 25 years latter (I am located in Durban South Africa for the past 15 years) my dream came true when I purchased 5 years ago this 2.6m tank for 50 U$. It is an absolute relaxation (after a hectic working day - I am an accountant) to come home and relax in the front of a magnificent tank with soft music playing in the background. My 2nd tank (in the bedroom is a 220 L tank with loaches, sailfin mollies, swordfish, tiger barbs and platys. For anyone, if you start this hobby, please be prepared and have patience to look and care for the tank and the fish. I have chosen the Oscar
Advice: Congrats to all fish keepers (especially for those Oscar lovers) - but no matter of what fish we keep / breed or whatever size of tank or goldfish or Betta bowl we have, we must be proud of our love towards these creatures. The most important is to keep the fish happy and healthy. Depending of financial status and the space, try to keep a tank as larger as possible (less maintenance) and KEEP THE TANK AS REAL AS POSSIBLE (avoid any un-necessary items / decorations like plastic toys, corals, skulls, sunken boats, sharp edged rocks, etc) and guarantee that your tank will look better. Try to hide as much as possible the filtration systems, heaters behind large size plants or rocks (volcanic rocks are the best and safe). Good luck and God bless
Fish Kept: 6 Tiger, 2 Red and 2 Albino Oscars Not colorful but a fish with intelligence and personality. I have raised them from as long as 2 inch and now they are 9 inch. The nutrition used : Mon-Fri twice a day Nutrafin Spirulina Cihlid sticks, Sat-Sun pieces of tenderised steak, chicken and fish fillets. Never use live fish (i.e. guppies or small goldfish - stay clear !!!)

Advice: Been keeping fish for about 2 years. Make sure you do weekly water changes and check for water parameters are in safe levels. Buy a tank big enough for the fish as they grow. Also research fish so you don't get major aggression issues. I have 3 snoody mid-sized cichlids. They all get along alright, except the Green Texas Cichlid gets chased around a lot.
Fish Kept: 1 Hypsophrys nicaraguensis (Macaw Cichlid), 1 Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, 1 Green Texas Cichlid, 1 Salvini Cichlid, 2 Boeseman’s Rainbowfish, 1 Irian Jaya Rainbowfish, 1 Millennium Rainbowfish, 3 Lake Kutubu Rainbowfish, 2 clown loaches, 2 Congo Tetras, 1 Empire Tetra, 2 raphael catfish, , 2 albino bristlenose plecos

Tank Size: 85
Description: 85 Gallon Freshwater T5HO 54 wats x2 Rena xp2 canister filter and Aquaclear 70 filter x2 2 liter DIY C02 (sugar & yeast) not cutting it for 85 gallons will probably buy a 10lb CO2 tank in future.

My main African mixed tank is doing very well. Several breedings have been happening constantly, and keeping me very busy as well. I added a couple more Synodontis Multipunctatus (My all time favorite Cat) and I'm hoping for some spawns from them. My Electric Blue is holding again for her second time, I can't wait for them! I'm in the works of getting my father's tank to replace this one, just gotta figure out how to get it over to my place.
My Electric Blue couple just released 42 fry, plus the 3 babies I could only save from the first batch. I can't wait for these guys to get bigger.

About Yourself: I started off with aquariums with my father when I was around 5 years old. Back then, I was more of the cleaner/maintenience boy then anything else. Now that I have my own place, I have 9 tanks, looking into getting a tenth soon (takeover my father's tank) I have been recently spending most of my time doing my Discus homework. I have a great set-up now with 11 Discus total, and I want to try and start breeding them. My main African tank is doing very well, I am carrying wellover a hundred different sorts of fry.. our last batch was 42 Electric Blues.. which I am really excited about. I'm having so much fun with this hobby, I can wait to pass it on someday.
Advice: Patience... the most important thing is patience.. but it's also the hardest to do too. Do your research on all equipment and know what your buying and using. Money can be wasted from both equipment and your fish. Some stuff I lucked out on, many things I found that can be much easier in matenience/ and overall use. Then ther are things you just buy because of the price... I really wasted a bit of money on horrible heaters.. within a few months all they do is take up room in the trash can now. I now have learned my lesson and before buying anything I now do TONS of research online, and over the phone.. trying to get as many opinions and suggestions as possible.. Most of the time you will find a pattern in peoples opinions. Nothing is better than having a great, easy, healthy, and beautiful aquarium... the horrible thing is losing those gorgeous finds because you rushed into something your not certain of. Don't learn the hard way.. it's really not worth it, trust me!

Description: I set this tank up after I got my own place. Several changes have occured since then, but the tank is doing very well at the moment. I am looking into taking over my father's tank, when I figure out how to move it over to my place. I added a daylight and blue actinic light to bring out some more of the colors in the tank. I have a standard double air pump with a wall of bubbles come up in the background. I try my best to lay off of the plants as much as I can, but sometimes I add it for a couple more hiding places for the smaller ones/females. I use lots of Lace rock, (I love the look) and I have added a bit of driftwood. Filters I use a few Whisper Tetras, but I am looking to switch to something else sometime in the future.
