About Yourself: Lured (pun intended) into this hobby after purchasing bettas for my kids! They lost interest...and I have been hooked (another pun) ever since!
Advice: QT, QT and QT some more! The biggest and most costly mistake you can make is not to quarantine new fish for 6-8 weeks. Read, Research and Review any forum, library, magazine, etc you can get your hands on. BUY QUALITY STOCK FROM A REPUTABLE BREEDER to begin with. It will save you money, time and aggravation in the long run.
Fish Kept: Discus, Angelfish, Bolivian Ram, German Blue Ram (and color morphs of), assorted Tetras, Bushynose plecs, Sterbai Cory, Red Irian Rainbowfish, Boesemani Rainbowfish, Brochis Cory, Cardinals and Rummynose Tetras, Clown plec, Asian glasscats, YoYo loach, and others
Plants Kept: None...all plastic fantastic or barebottom tanks
Tank Size: 75
Description: two Emperor 400 Bio-wheel filters plus hydro-sponge w/whisper air pump, two 150 watt visi-therm heaters, 50% twice weekly water changes, change out carbon every two weeks...moonlight on timer at night. Could decrease stock load, and do less! Lighting on timer for 8 hrs daily, use Coralife Colormax bulb, big difference in color enhancement.

About Yourself: How did I get into this? I saw a Discus and had to have one. Many years later I'm still amazed by them.

Plants Kept: Live plants.
Tank Size: 55

About Yourself: My father is a geology professor who helped origonate the idea of plate techtonics, my stepmother is a marine biologist who introduced me to freshwater fishtanks when she was studying crayfish behavior(she was far from the sea as we moved to Ithaca NY when I was ten). I used to raise fish I caught in the local streams and ponds. I buried flat rocks in the front corners of my tank and watched as the crayfish created their burrows, and then I was able to watch them as I had set it up so I would be able to see into their homes. I would return fish and crayfish to the stream when I went away for trips and when they got too big. I'm a respiratory therapist, I have an eight year old son, and we're both into fishtanks and N-scale trains.
Advice: Try live plants and make sure you have adequate lighting, and over-do the biological filtration. You will need to clean less often and you'll have a more stable ecosystem.
Fish Kept: 14 inch arawana, 3 8-10 inch Florida spotted gars, 2 eight inch hydro gars, 2 7 inch weather loaches, 1 6 inch talapia.
Plants Kept: Large, medium, and small anubias, java fern, java moss, Amazon sword, and a few kinds of other medium to small nice plants.
Tank Size: 100
Description: 100 gal planted freshwater tank with two large powerheads running undergravel filter, two canister filters with max 275 gal combined capacity, and four 65 watt VHO flourescents run 8-10 hours per day. Soil is a mix of mediums averaging about four inches deep. There is a moderate current that provides excercise for fish and circulation for the plants.

About Yourself: First and foremost I'm a dedicated believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Beyond that I'm a Construction Worker by day and a Web Designer by night. After a long day of hard labor there is nothing more relaxing than planting myself in front of my aquarium and shedding the stress of the day.
Advice: My advice to any beginner is to start small and aim big. A larger size tank can be quite a commitment. If a beginner jumps right into a larger size tank they can easily find themselves overwhelmed by the time and effort it takes to maintain a good healty environment for their fish to thrive. Don't sweat loosing fish, it happens to all of us no matter what the experience level. Most importantly have fun. It's just a hobby, if it gets too serious it's time to get out.
Fish Kept: I have 3 different varieties of Peacock Cichlids - 1 Red Zebra Cichlid - 1 Electric Blue Cichlid - 1 Green Terror Cichlid - 1 Electric Yellow Cichlid - 1 Big Lipped Cichlid - one Albino Cichlid and 3 Cichlids whos species origin is yet to be identified. I also have one Dinosaur Birch who my Cichlids seem to leave alone and two very small plecostomus but one of them I'm growing for another tank tht is still cycling.
Plants Kept: A variety of different artificial plants. I plan to gradually replace all of my artificial plants with live ones but seen as how this tank is only a few months old I havent gotton to that point yet.
Tank Size: 55
Description: Im Using an All Glass 55 Gallon aquarium with the demensions of 48" Length, 12 1/2" Depth and 18" High. I'm using a ProQuatics canister filter 2400 with a Fluval 304 canaster filter for backup and even though this combo is slightly overkill it keeps the tank very clean for a healthy Cichlid habitat. For lighting I'm using a 48" 1219 mm Reef Sun 50/50 florescent lamp by Zoo Med Aquatics. For superior airation and circulation I'm using twin power heads. Heating is provided by a 200 W submersible heater.
