Advice: Plan and read. I wouldn't buy anything until your sure about the size of everything you want and the equipment needed to maintain your tank. You can usually figure about $30 - $35 a gal for a tank that is fully set up with livestock. Make sure to support your Local Fish Store, and check the internet to see if there is a good local reef community or forum board. My local board is: www.sdreefs.com If you wish to see the progression of this tank copy & paste this link: http://www.sdreefs.com/forums/showthread.php?p=142497&posted=1#post142497

About Yourself: My husband and I have just started with saltwater this last January. So far, we have had nothing less then a fantastic experience with the saltwater tank (knock on wood). I'm sure we are in for a blow at some point, but so far, so good. We have had freshwater tanks for sometime. We have a soft spot for fancy goldfish, though right now we do not have any. We do have 2 Betta's (housed seperately), 3 cichlids in their own tank and another tank with 2 zebra's, a long finned danio, 4 glow light tetras and 5 neons. My husband is an electrician. I used to be a truck driver, but left the industry when I found I needed to stay home with my son while he was in school.
Advice: Research any and every animal you intend to buy thoroughly before you buy.

About Yourself:

Cleaner Shrimp Video

I got into the hobby by a close friend. Basically he bought me my first fish. A betta, red, blue and black. After that i got into south american ciclids, Jack dempsey, oscar and others. soon graduated to brackish fish, needle nose gar, datnoid, puffers, scats, bichirs (not brackish, but adaptable)knife fish. Then i got a job at the local pet store. I learned the basics to salt water and gradually increased to a preportional size. Now i have a couple of years behind my belt in aquatics, Salt and fresh. But there is so much knowledge to be had and developed, i will never stop learning. I love to encourage and give advice to new reefers I have a small buisiness setting up and servicing reef tanks and love to problem solve. My new website is up but still under construction. check it out so far: www.oneoceanaquatics.com
