About Yourself: 26 year old bartender at applebees i started with a 10 gallon and immediatly got hooked. I live on the third floor at my apartment complex, so i must wait untill i get a 75 gallon salt water tank of my dreams.

Advice: Ive found a large amount of real plants keep fish happy and lower nitrate levels. Growing plants from seeds is a fun way to add some beauty your tank, but it is also hard to grow seeds if the fish pick at the seedlings and your bottom feeders uproot the seeds.

Fish Kept: 5 tiger barbs, 2 ruby barbs, 3 albino barbs, 2 kissing gouramis, one powder blue dwarf gourami, 2 chinese alge eaters, and one african dwarf frog

Plants Kept: an Aponogeton, 3 amazon sword leaf, an umbrella plant, and a few fake plants

Tank Size: 26

Description: My fishtank is a 26 gallon bow (curved front) fishtank. I have 2 air pumps one large connected to various bubble stones and a small one connected to a 4" ceramic wand. I have large aqueon water filter. In addition i also have a small water pump to help circulation.

About Yourself: I am fairly new to the hobby. I started the tank during my R & R from Kuwait with the Army in July of 2009 with regular community tropical fish. When I returned home from deployment in October 2009, My wife and I decided to change over to Cichlids.

Advice: You might as well get the biggest aquarium possible now because once you get one, you will want a BIGGER one!!! I am going tommorow to purchase a 120 gallon!

Fish Kept: I keep this tank stocked kind of heavy in order to help keep aggression down with the fish. African Cichlids: 3- Melanochromis Aurutus (all males) 5- Yellow Labs (unsure of sex) 11- Pseudotropheus saulosi (6 males, 5 females) South American Cichlid: 1- Jack Dempsey (male) Regular community tropical fish: 1- Rainbow Shark 1- Silver Dollar 1- Pleco Other: 1- Blue Crayfish named Fred!

Plants Kept: None, Cichlids like to EAT plants!

Tank Size: 55

Description: This is a 55 gallon aquarium with mostly African Cichlids. Tank is 48" long X 18" tall X 13" deep. I built a custom canopy that houses my 4 bulb compact fluorescent fixture with 2-65W 10K bulbs and 2- 50/50 actinic bulbs. I also bought some blue LED's and wired them up for moonlighting at night. For filtration I am using a HOB 55 gallon Aqueon filter and a power head to help circulate water. Also, there is a 14 inch bubble bar buried in the back bottom beneath the substrate to help move water. I just changed from regular blue gravel to cichlid substrate mixed with some Aragonite sand. I am using rainbow rock, slate, and lace rock for hiding spots.

My bonzai tree provides plenty of hiding places and surface area for my upside catfish and other catfish. The plants are always where my african bush is chilling and the goby loves to explore everywhere. The roman columns look better in tank than in the store for those interested.
