We had a 20 gallon freshwater tank for 4 years, stepped up to a 55 several years ago, and ventured into saltwater in October '07. Our stands for both were designed and built by my husband.

Advice:
Once I read that this hobby is like a sport car, the faster you go the harder you crash, so
Don't rush in, let live rock cycle well before you start introducing live stock and choose the wright gravel
Try get it wright the first time so you don't change things in tank when there are fish and corals.
A good filter with good flow, a Protein Skimmer that makes his job some live rock and everything will run smooth with the wright water parameters and without adding to many gadgets.
