i have bio balls in one and the cartridge filters in the other have i gone crazy. i wanted to improve the water flow and keep the filtration real good since i have alot of africans in that tank along with live plants.
As serial said if your fish aren't getting blown to one side by hurricane category 5 water currents...you're probably fine. Watch them when you turn the lights off to see if they settle into 'dead spots'. If they do, and aren't flipping their fins 40 times per secont to say stationary, you've got nothing to worry about.
what i do to my emperor's is get the media basket and stuff it with crushed coral and oystershells... that way they buffer the water and have biological benifits... plus... you have biowheels... those things are so great for providing bio bugs...
Not to change subject... but I see Peter has got a new keyboard?!... No more scrolling right for about a mile just to see what he has to say. Now I can read it all in one spot on the page.
