Taht's good,
The quarantine tanks work. Did you ever tried to treat him with copper? Do not feed til his natural appetite comes back. Does he have white spots all over him? Make sure -and that's very important- that the water parameters in the quarantine tank is closest to perfect.. Do not try to feed right now.. How long it'd been goin' on?

well the ick i only came up a few days ago but he got it really bad but i put him in his own little quartine tank with a cleaner shrimp and the water pram are the same as my reef tank since i took the water out of there i was thinking of treating him with copper but i would have to tear down my whole tank to get him and i didnt want to stress the other fish so much that their immune system would fail but now im kinda hopeful since i caught the cleaner and put him in the with the tang.

Ok,
But now since hes in the quarantine tank, you can try the copper treatment, and I'd just put the shrimp back into the main tank.. How many fishes do you have? Is the Hippo the only one with ick?

could try to lower the salinity in the Q tank gradually and raise temperature slightly. higher temperature will speed up the life cycle of the ich parasite.

Hate to hear that.
Guys, you gotta pay more attention to your fishes. I killed a few of mine before I realized how easy to cure the problem if you know what's going on.. Whenever your fishes stops eating, hides alot ( sometimes it's normal behavior), gasping for air or just doesn't act the way suppose to, don't let it happen. Don't wait til tomorrow and say will see.. Nothings more painful than fishloss in the hobby. Belive me I know.. I had days I almost gave up, but I didn't and I am very happy about that. I still have tons a things to learn, but i know one thing for sure. Whenever I see somethins ain't right, I do something about it right away.

I can't repeat myself enough, forums and the wjole internet is like a huge library, and it's mostly free. Take advantage.
