i just recently built my own sump with some acrylic due to odd measurments in my stand (couldnt find a sump to fit in my stand) my question is about the return pump. I grabbed some hosing for the return and conncted a maxi jet 1200 to it and i had water flowing up and out of the 5ft hose, i will be shortening the hose about a foot or so, will this maxijet be enough? or do i need something better?
yes, i just got my overflow a few days ago from drsfostersmith.com its an Eshopps pf-300 for tanks up to 75 gallons, also its the smallest model eshopps makes
whatever would be sufficent , the water has to travel around 3 1/2 to 4 ft max with one bend in the hose, yes its a 40, how many gallons perhour would do the trick?
if you built your sump I'm sure you have done your homework, but on an off chance - - you should be able to return 1/3 more water to the tank as the overflow box is able to send to the sump [ i.e. box is capable of 100 gph, return pump should be able to put out 130gph mnimum]- -a tee valve {similar to the adjustment on a skimmer or HOB filter will allow you to "equallize" sump fill and tank return - -the output from the adjusted side of the valve can have a bag full of carbon put on it for water polishing {might as well use everything right?, lol Boss
100% sure MJ 1200 will not does the trick. I don't even think it'll have enough power to push the water up. I did a fast calculation here and I think a MAG5 or 7 would do a great 350-400 G/Hr for ya'. I got mine from eBay for somewhere arond 50-60 bucks shipping included. Maintance free pumps, can't take them a part. Average lifetime bout 8-12 years. Very quiet and great pumps.
