I doubt more introduced oxygen in any part of your tank will speed up bacterial growth but it will probably sustain colonies better as they require O2 to live, which is why most will thrive on parts of your filter where the greatest part of O2 gas exchange takes place, and ammonia is always passing through getting broken down immediately. At least on HOB filters.
