Crap !!! I finally got my new fish acclimated yesterday after a psyco trip through the mail - - i don't think the snails are going to make it, but ill give em a day or two to see what they do.....the clowns are doing great!!!!! but today my my daughters boyfriend {seirial32 on the fresh side} calls me and askes if my tank is supposed to be at 70 degrees? AAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHH - -I had unplugged some stuff to do the acclimation and left the heater unplugged all night - - I took the two smaller filters out when I got home tonight and put all the mech pieces into a bigger Hagen 110 HOB filter so I had to add about 1 1/2 gallons of water to the system --- so i used a little warmer water - - -man im trying hard to kill these lil fellas dispite myself...lol Boss
man - -that sucks, sorry to hear that............now i'll really piss ya off - -without a doubt according to your profile you have easily twice as many fish in that tank as you should - - i would immeadiately address filtration double or triple it if possable - - thin down the hard to keep specimins i.e the manderian although beautiful, very hard to keep, i bet he's not a happy fishie, lol i con't speak to a cure for ich other than some water changes and get the bioload balanced - -im sure others with more kowledge than I can help with specific treatment for the one you have infected....Good luck bud......i hope to read good things in the next week or so from you, Snowboss
see i was all ways wondering that but the thing is i check my lvls almost everyday and i never get anything above normal i had the impression that you should really only have 1 fish for every 10g and I included my sump into that calculation so i have around 100g so i should be allowed to keep 10 fish happy and with my weakly 10% water changes. what do you think
10 % water change in a regular maint cycle is perfect...... I've never heard the sump being figured in althougb i could be wrong for fish stocking - -my opinion is "a 4 person household requires a 1000 gallon septic tank - - if i put a 2000 gallon septic tank that doesn't mean 8 people will fit in my house" make sense? - - also I try to figure stocking by how much each fish needs ...for example a tang requires A LOT more room to swinn around than say a blenny - - so how does the 1 fish per 10 gallon figure fit there? {I'm asking, as I don't know} these are just my thoughts and opinions - -very good people in here though listen and make an informed choice on action bud....Boss
well i want to stress the service and product from liveaquaria is beyond description - -i had a bad deal with the shipper ......starts with Fed and ends with Ex, lol - -liveaquaria has already creadited me for the snails and I have 13 more days on the clowns ....So I still stand behind them and will buy from them again for sure, Boss
Heads up Boss, the future's bright a head. Do me a favor man... Next time try petsolutions. You'll be able to set up the deliver day, the way you want to. UPS rules...
i have credits to deal with, with live aquaria ...but i will give petsolutions a try on the next fish
hate to even report this and I want to stress that liveaquaria was at the mercy of the shipper as much as i was and they are standing behind their guarentee but i just lost one of the clowns as well....about 15 minutes ago....
I didn't check it with a thermomitor but im sayin the shipping water ended up being close to 50 degrees by the time fedex got em here the heat pak was all used up - - -that can't be good
a 24 hr shipping schedual turned into close to 72 hrs in transit - - Boss
Don't get me wrong.. It wasn't their fault.. UPS provides the best services out there... Sorry 'bout your clown. The only thing I don't like about reefscavengers. com is they offer only USPS service nationwide. UPS is for FL residents only. My package will arrive tomorrow... Again, sorry for your loss man. DH
boss are you quarentining these fish and are you using the old school acclimation technique??of you are using the old school float the bag technique it may not be good becuase the fish has alreafy undergone so many changes from each touch point. I would quarentine and use the drip acclimation method discussed in the article link on this forum. The float the bad acclimation might be ok if the fish was at your lfs for a while beofre you got him....just some after thoughts good luck boos
Online purchases require AT LEAST one hour drip accimlation. Most sellers have a central filtration, therefore tanks have the same quality water(mostly). If you order fish and inverts at the time, they'll arrive in two or more separeted plastic bags. After 20 minutes (closed bag, room temperature) I open the bags, and let the creatures together in the same bucket. Again, before I do this I always make sure that the seller used the same water in thier bags. Than I start the drip accimlation. After half an hour I even set up a mini heater in the bucket. I never loss any livestock with this method. AGAIN, AT LEAST AN HOUR!!
that's what I did guys, I did float the bags to get them up to temp {about 30 minutes in this case then i put both clowns in a 1 gallon tank and did a 1 hr 45 min drip on them, took half the water out half way through and discarded - -let the drip bring it back up to double the original water and then netted them into the tank - - -the snails I floated, opened the bag - -took one turkey baster of their water out and put one turkey baster of my water in - - every 3-5 minutes for the same time the drip was running - - i didn't put any of their water into my tank other than about one cup when i finally introduced the snails, which was pretty well diluted by that time - - -I really think this particular issue is the poor little guys just spent to much time stressed, cold, and lack of 02 in the bag.........called liveaquaria this morning and they said if the second clown doesn't make it {which he is looking a little pekid} they will reship the complete order at no cost to me - -and continuouslly apologized for the trouble....i am still impressed with them completly, Boss
