I think the veggies you give him have to be giving off some sort of 'aroma'... so the pleco can sense it and realize it isn't just a 'plant' but actual feed. Try soaking them in garlic for a bit, that does the trick with me. You also have to remember that plecos cant really chew, so any veggie you give them will have to be soft. Maybe that's why he couldnt, and wouldnt eat the beans, not too sure.

I believe it's common pleco. Very nice fish who doesn't bother the other fish in my 100 gallon tank.

Hey what is your ph with the pleco's? I have 1 pleco, 3 cichlids, and a freshwater stonefish and my Ph is 8.0. I was reading some other sites where maximum ph for the plecos should be around 7.5. But also for my stonefish i've read that minimum is 7.8. Cichlids are fine either way but am not sure if i should leave it the way it is or try to get it a little lower.
Any suggestions/comments on this?

I have no idea what is best for plecos. i try to keep my pH around 7.0.
