So about 4 weeks ago, I went to feed my African Cichlids and to my amazement they were all dead!!! There were five of them, all about 6 inches, in the tank that died but my two catfish and the pleco were unharmed. I tested the pH and ammonia levels and all was normal, but the nitrates spiked big time, could be what killed off my African Cichlids.

ANYWAY...

It has been 4 weeks now and I went to get a few more African Cichlids since they were cheap to make sure the water was ok. They lived and today I want to get my brand new fish that I have been waiting to get for a loooong time. My Electric Blue Jack Dempseys! They are just little guys and Ill be posting pictures so they just need to get approved.

I cannot wait for them to grow!!! They are beautiful fish!

No, I got the African Cichlids to make sure the water was ok since it had been cycling for 4 weeks. I didnt want to spend the money on an expensive fish and have it die so i picked up a few of the cheap Africans instead. They are fine with the JD's for now since everyone is about the same size but when the JD's get just a little bigger it will be time for another tank, or they will just become food, whichever comes first!

right now its around 7-7.5. with JD's you can get away with anywhere from a 6.5-8 even though 7-8 is recommended.
