ok so i talked to a lady at my lfs the other day, she told me that i should be dosing my lugols soltuion every few days, ive been doing it 2 drops every month and a half or so in my 70 gallon tank, ive briefly read articles on it and basically they all say how benneficial it is to the tank to dose the iodine. Is it safe to dose 2 drops every few days in the tank without overdosing? no i dont have an iodine test kit.

Iodine test kits are a real pain unless you want to pay serious money for them, ive never tested iodine for this reason.
I dose my top off water with 6 ml of iodine each week, this is for a 550 ltr tank including sump.Iodine is used by all corals to a certain extent but you will notice a good difference mainly in soft corals by regular iodine dosing.
I used to add 6 ml to the sump once a week so you adding a couple of drops twice a week will be fine, depending on your tank size of course.

My LFS suggested 10 drops weekly in my 250. I add it to the sump every Monday as part of my routine. Once i started you could notice a difference in the corals.

I used to dose.....ive found out it really doesnt make a difference in my tank. I do a water change every two weeks......after I do that.......I dont need the addition of anything.

haha, I still have my 2 part cause you never know when you may need it. Puff, have you considered using a solar tube over your tank? it would cut your energy bill in half. :)

Its a lot easier in the long run. IF your tank is in a permanent place and you dont mind cutting a whole in your cieling and roof.....its a perfect idea! Think about this.......If you have a 6 foot tank your running 3 250 halides....thats 750 watts an hour your running on your tank. Thats a LOT. Thats like running your AC almost. SO you install solar tubes over your tank.....space them every two feet and they will cover that effectively just like a halide. Difference is......its sunlight what corals really love......no timers.......no bulbs........no ballasts.........no heat transfer.....no energy sucking out of your house. It would pay for itself within a year or two.

What are you feeding how often and how much? My advice to you is.......no matter how much algae your snails eat......they still poop. Poop in turn creates algae.....just producing the same problem you added them for in the first place.
